(Hannah) Bingrou Guo is a composer/conductor based in Cincinnati, Ohio, with music often characterized by her melodically lyrical yet harmonically dissonant approach through contrapuntal writing due to her passion for the Renaissance/Baroque music, the 20th-/21st-century music, and her longstanding involvement in choral music. Her music speaks about spiritual darkness, personal struggles, and portrays the broken beauty of the world, the shared human experience that often goes unspoken or ignored. Guo's music has been awarded a gold rating and a silver rating in the 2022 IMEA collegiate-level composition competition, among her other commissions and collaborations.
Guo works with a variety of ensembles and organizations to premiere her compositions, including Sound Ecologies, Circle City Orchestra, Greencastle Flute Choir, University of Maryland Tactus, JCA Composer's Orchestra, Sunset Syndicate Saxophone Quartet, Taylor University Chorale & Sounds, Taylor University Wind Ensemble, and more. She has also sung new music by her fellow composers, conducted new chamber pieces, and was the graduate assistant of the JCA Composer's Orchestra at Butler University for two years. She considers her recent biggest achievement to be a successful and meaningful collaboration with her friend, composer/conductor Joshua P. Cuevas, in putting together a new music concert titled "On Grief that Remains" in April, 2026 with musicians gathered from Butler University, Taylor University, and the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir.
